Diagnostic Assessments
At MLA Psychology, we offer comprehensive diagnostics, educational, and neurodevelopmental assessments to identify learning differences, mental health concerns, giftedness, and career readiness.
Clarity, confidence, and support—begin with the right diagnosis.
At MLA Psychology, we offer comprehensive diagnostics, educational, and neurodevelopmental assessments for ADHD, ASD and other cognitive assessments to identify learning differences, mental health concerns, giftedness, and career readiness.
Our assessments provide valuable insights into conditions such as Autism, ADHD, ADD, and learning disorders like dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. When appropriate, our assessments also support applications for NDIS funding and inclusive education programs, ensuring that every adolescent receives the resources they need to thrive.
Whether you’re looking for answers to long-standing questions or need a diagnosis to access the right supports, we’re here to guide you with clarity, care, and compassion.
What We Assess
We provide in-depth assessments for:
- Autism (ASD)
Attention Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Combined Autism & ADHD (AuDHD)
Cognitive - Assessments for learning differences, giftedness, and intellectual functioning
Each assessment is tailored to the individual’s age, experiences, and needs. You can be assessed for one condition, or choose a combined assessment for both Autism and ADHD.
Autism (ASD) Assessments
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people communicate, process information, and experience the world.
Our Autism assessments explore:
– Sensory sensitivities
– Social communication and interaction
– Routines, repetitive behaviours, and focused interests
– Emotional regulation and flexibility with change
We look beyond checklists and into the lived experience, capturing both strengths and challenges. Our reports provide a clear explanation of how the diagnostic criteria are (or aren’t) met, using tools that are affirming and inclusive.
ADHD Assessments
ADHD can affect attention, planning, memory, and emotional regulation. It often goes unrecognised—especially in women, non-binary individuals, and adults.
We assess across all ADHD types:
– Inattentive
– Hyperactive-Impulsive
– Combined presentation
We explore common areas like:
– Focus and concentration
– Impulsivity and restlessness
– Task completion and organisation
– Mood fluctuations and emotional regulation

Combined Autism & ADHD (AuDHD) Assessments

Autism and ADHD frequently overlap, and many people meet criteria for both. A combined assessment offers a clearer picture without repeating tests unnecessarily.
Our AuDHD assessments help:
– Reduce appointment fatigue
– Streamline the process
– Identify overlapping or contrasting traits
– Provide targeted, integrated recommendations
We adjust tools and processes to accommodate sensory, cognitive, or communication needs and ensure nothing is missed.
Cognitive Assessments
We offer cognitive assessments for both children and adults. These may explore:
– Learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)
– Giftedness or twice-exceptionality
– Intellectual disability
– Educational planning and career readiness
These assessments help answer questions about learning style, strengths and challenges, and may support school accommodations, career planning, or further referrals.

Our Assessment Process
We aim to make the process supportive and clear from start to finish:
1. Intake Appointment – We discuss your history, concerns, and goals.
2. Testing Sessions – We use standardised, gold-standard tools suited to age and presentation.
3. Scoring & Interpretation – Our clinicians analyse results using DSM-5-TR criteria, observations, and real-life context.
4. Feedback & Report – You’ll receive a detailed, easy-to-understand report, along with a feedback session explaining your results, diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations.
*Please note: Where a formal diagnosis is made (e.g., Autism or ADHD), a paediatrician or psychiatrist may also need to review the findings for medical confirmation.*
NDIS & Functional Capacity Assessments
While our diagnostic reports may support NDIS applications, they are not designed to assess functional capacity across the domains required by the NDIS.
Our standard Autism, ADHD, or AuDHD reports:
– Follow DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria
– Confirm (or rule out) diagnosis
– Do not include detailed assessments of daily living, social functioning, or support needs as required by NDIS
If you are applying for the NDIS and require documentation that specifically addresses support needs across functional capacity domains, we recommend also booking an NDIS Access Request Assessment Report.
*A diagnostic report alone may not be sufficient for NDIS entry. We’re happy to guide you through this process.*
